44. A new broadcast transmitter was obtained from England and installed at Cape D'Aguilar. Certain alterations to Wireless Transmitters were made to meet International Convention Regulations regarding wireless telegraphy, and a broadcast receiver installed at the Mental Hospital. The various W/T. Stations, Commercial, Meteorological, Police and Harbour, were maintained in a satisfactory manner.

Underground telephone cables were laid for the Military Authorities (on repayment) at the following places: - (a) Morrison Hill-Lyemun Route, (b) Government Quarry-Lyemun Barracks, and (c) Kowloon City Rifle Ranges, also three telephone switchboards were overhauled and submarine cables at Lyemun Pass and Harbour repaired.

46. Activity continued in all classes of building work throughout the Colony. European residences to the number of 222 were completed during the year. The number of Chinese houses completed was 1,144.

47. On the Praya East Reclamation, 360 Chinese tenement houses were completed during the year, while over 200 more were in course of erection. It is noticeable that the improved type of Chinese tenement house which is now being erected has brought with it a demand for modern sanitation, and where sewer facilities exist and an independent and adequate water supply is available it is now common practice for all new houses to be fitted with a flush system.

48. In Hong Kong the European type development continued in areas at Wong Nei Chong, Tai Hang and Causeway Bay, while in Kowloon similar activity continued along Prince Edward Road, and areas adjoining, and also at Kowloon Point.

49. Several large buildings of a semi-public nature were completed during the year including banking premises, theatres, buildings of a scholastic and religious nature and hospitals.

51. Industrial buildings included knitting factories, canning factories, and an extensive reconstruction of the Green Island Cement Company's premises at Hok Un.

52. A concrete wharf 800 feet in length and 48,000 sq. ft. in area was in course of construction opposite K.M.L. 11, Kowloon Point. A Timber Pier opposite K.M.L. 90, To Kwa Wan was completed.

Reclamations were completed at N.K.I.L. 971, Castle Peak Road, area in sq. ft. 24,750; and at Tsun Wan M.L. 4, area in sq. ft. 74,900. A reclamation was in progress at I.L. 2918, Shaukiwan Road, area in sq. ft. 102,700.
