HARBOUR SURVEYING.

35. This work was referred to in paragraph 264 of last year's report. About 1,182 acres were surveyed, reduced and plotted by the end of the year. This area together with previous surveys brings the area of the harbour surveyed on fixed lines to a total of approximately 2,000 acres leaving a balance of approximately 10,000 acres to be surveyed.

TOWN PLANNING.

54. During the year development has proceeded on the lines laid down by the Town Planning Committee of 1922 with alterations made where necessary to conform to present conditions, where necessary levels have been revised and roads re-aligned or re-planned as circumstances demanded. Data and information have been collected which, when complete, will make possible a detailed and comprehensive survey of the City and Kowloon, and comparison with modern development in Europe and America.

55. Amongst the schemes prepared the following is a brief description of the more important:-

56. Hong Kong - A comprehensive scheme was prepared for possible future development of the sites of the present Government House and Government Offices.

57. Development of the North Point Reclamation and area adjoining on the south side of Shaukiwan Road. The scheme includes provision for godown and commercial areas on the sea front and a housing development for some 50,000 people in tenements of European and Chinese type together with necessary Public Service buildings at the centre of the area they serve.

58. A survey was made of the hillside at Tai Hang and various methods of development investigated.

59. Alternative schemes were prepared for the widening of Wanchai Road at the foot of Morrison Hill.

60. Kowloon. - Junction of Chatham and Ma Tau Wai Roads. The lay-out and levels in this district have been revised with the object of improving the plan and reducing drainage costs.

61. The area at the junction of Nathan and Tai Po Roads was replanned together with areas extending north and south of Boundary Street between Nathan Road and the Railway. The scheme provides for a 200 feet parkway leading from Prince Edward Road to the entrance of the New Park.

62. A scheme was in course of preparation for the development on Garden City lines of the area lying between Kowloon Tong and Kowloon City,
