23. In addition the following works were under construction during the year:- No. 2 Police Station; Market at Sai Ying Pun; Garage for the Prison Department in Arbuthnot Road; Market at Praya East Reclamation; Maternity Block at Kowloon Hospital; Central British School Site; and Female Prison at Lai Chi Kok.
24. Numerous minor alterations and improvements to Government Buildings were also executed during the year.
COMMUNICATIONS,
25. The following works were completed:- Road from Causeway Bay to Quarry Bay, section 70 feet wide, opposite M.Ls. 430 and 431; Tai Hang Road construction including strengthening of Conduit; Barker Road Improvements from Stubbs Road to Victoria Hospital; Access Road (15 feet wide) to Christian Chinese Cemetery, Kowloon City; Tong Mi and Kowloon Tong, filling in areas; reclamation at Kai Tak; Castle Peak Road, section from Cheung Sha Wan to Lai Chi Kok to Town Planning Layout (60 feet wide); and Patrol Path from Lin Ma Hang to Sha Tau Kok.
26. The following works were under construction:- Chatham Road Extension; Filling in area North West of Nan Chang Street; Filling in area West of Tai Po Road; and Refuse Dump at Cheung Sha Wan.
27. The erection of the Hangar at Kai Tak was nearly completed by the end of the year.
28. The road surface of the Colony of Hong Kong were maintained in a satisfactory condition. Area "I" on Wong Nei Chong Recreation Grounds allotted to the Naval Hockey Club was levelled and returfed. Owing to a landslide which occurred adjacent to the foundation of the new Quarry Plant, Tsat Tsz Mui Government Quarry, a retaining wall was erected.
29. Portions of Nathan Road and Lai Chi Kok Road were reconditioned and strengthened with 7" reinforced cement concrete surfacing. Alterations to the traffic arrangements at Tsim Sha Tsui were completed. The surfacing of roadway to the Kai Tak Aerodrome was commenced.
30. The strengthening and improvement of the road surfaces was continued, an additional layer of 4" macadam being laid over the present surface and tar-painted between Au Tau and Mei Po. An improvement to a dangerous part of the road at Tai Wai Village was completed. The Bridge at So Kum Wat and Sea wall at Shatin Causeway damaged during the heavy rains and typhoons were repaired.
