(c.) Shek Lai Pui Service Reservoir.-During the year drawings were prepared for a Shing Mun filtered water Service Reservoir to be situated in the Shek Lai Pui Valley immediately below the Reception Reservoir. This reservoir is designed to have a capacity of 10.6 million gallons and a Top Water Level of 443.00 O.D. On the 14th September a contract for this work was signed with the Hong Kong Excavation Pile Driving and Construction Company at a cost of $253,438.35 excluding ironwork. By the end of the year the contractors had erected their plant for the removal of spoil and a commencement had been made on the excavation of the eastern half of the Reservoir.

Good progress was also made with the nullah training.

(d.) Pipe Line. This work was referred to in paragraph 201(d) of last year's Report.

The laying of the 24" dia. steel main was continued on the section between Cheung Sha Wan and the site of the Service Reservoir in the Shek Lai Pui Valley. By the middle of May this section was completed and tested except for a length of 560 lineal feet immediately below the Service Reservoir.

Work was then commenced on the section between the junction of Nathan and Prince Edward Roads to Cheung Sha Wan. Owing to the widening of the Castle Peak Road not being sufficiently advanced, however, work on this section was stopped in August when the main had been laid to a point about 200 feet North of the junction of Nam Chang Street with Tai Po Road.

At the end of October permission was granted to proceed with laying in the section along Nathan Road between Salisbury and Prince Edward Roads and by the end of the year the section from Salisbury Road to Pakhoi Street had been completed.
