230. Dredging within Harbour Limits and Formation of Reclamation at Kowloon City-This work was referred to in paragraph 202 of last year's Report.
Dredging. The work was completed on the 15th July. Under this programme of dredging, Penguin Shoal was deepened to an average depth of -37.5 feet O.D.; the depth at Belcher Ridge and Rambler Shoal was increased to -36.5 feet O.D.; the area south of the Hong Kong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown's No. 5 Pier was dredged to -36 feet O.D.; the area off the above Co.'s piers also the basins between the piers were dredged to -32 feet O.D. The total quantity of material dredged to the Contract levels amounted to 1,279,131 cu. yds. Due to portions of the above areas having been dredged below Contract requirement, the total quantity of dredged material for disposal amounted to 1,452,860 cu. yds.
Reclamation. The dredged material was deposited in the Kai Tack Reclamation by means of the suction dredgers "Hankow" and "Canton". The filling in by this method was carried out to an average of about 2 feet below the final formation level; the total area thus reclaimed amounted to approximately 85 acres. A total of 1,306 feet of Sea Wall was built to protect the filling. About 2,214 lin. ft. of invert was formed to the existing nullahs which are 32 feet wide. To provide for the construction of covering to the nullah 2,124 lin. ft. of masonry piers were built along the centre line of the nullahs.

On the completion of dredging it was picked up and relaid between Star Ferry Pier Hong Kong and Kowloon-Canton Railway Station on July 20th-21st.
