198. Equipment of Government Garage and Workshops.- The necessary equipment and workshop tools were purchased and installed in the workshops.
1927 Estimates, $3,000.00 1927 Expenditure, $2,317.51199. Harbour Surveying.- This work was referred to in Annexe L at page 170 of last year's Report.
A series of borings were taken at Kowloon Point and to the South of Stonecutters' Island to ascertain the nature of the harbour bottom. Preliminary work was also carried out in connection with an extensive hydrographic survey at Cheung Sha Wan.
1927 Estimates, $3,000.00 1927 Expenditure, $931.55200. Bathing Facilities.- As in previous years, such facilities were provided at Kennedy Town, North Point, and Repulse Bay. Owing to the beach at Stonecutters' Island being taken over by the Military Authorities, it was unavailable for the use of the public, and in its stead the beach at Tai Wan was substituted. The beach at Castle Peak was also utilized.
The attendance for the season was good, and improvements and additions were carried out as detailed below.
Repulse Bay--The usual three rafts were provided together with the necessary beach staff. Fifteen matshed cubicles for the use of the public were erected, and water flushed public lavatories as well as a two-seat native type water flushed latrine were in course of construction. The removal of boulders, cutting of the undergrowth, and the laying of a water service with taps at three points on the beach were effected.
Kennedy Town.- Fifteen additional cubicles were provided as well as shower baths and public conveniences.
Castle Peak.- Two shower baths and two taps were available on the beach.
