P.W.E. New Territories.

(a). Construction of wells at Cheung Chau.--This work was referred to in paragraph 204 (c) of last year's Report. The cost involved was $539.99.

(b). Lok Ma Chau Police Station,--Levelling of Parade Ground. This work was referred to in paragraph 204 (d) of last year's Report, and completed at a cost of $450.00.

(c). Filling in of a lot near N.K.F.L. 6, below Taipo Road.--The formation of this site was for the purpose of an exchange and the work was well advanced by the end of the year. The expenditure incurred amounted to $1,400.00.

(d). Taipo Police Station and Rest House.--Construction of new cement concrete paths.

(e). Cheung Chau Police Station.--Provision of Arms Grille in the Charge Room.

(f). Taipo Island Quarters.--Erection of a new Typhoon Signal Apparatus.

(g). Laichikok Branch Prison.--Erection of a new garage, and rendering the latrines fly-proof.

(h). Branch Police Station (rented), Tai Nan Street.--Re-instatement of property.

221. Compensation and Resumptions.--This vote provided for the resumption of properties required in connection with development schemes, new roads, etc.

The resumptions effected are shown on page 49 and the total amount of payments approved under this Vote was $394,196.21, but, owing to the refusal of certain owners to accept the amounts offered as compensation, a sum of $5,119.67 was refunded making the net expenditure $389,076.54 for the year.
