50. Maintenance of telephones, including all cables.—The lines and instruments were maintained in good order. Additional telephones were connected to the Central Exchange, and thirteen extensions installed.

A new 100-line switchboard section, with multiples, was installed at the Central Exchange.

A V.I.R. Cable was laid at Waglan Lighthouse to replace aerial wires.

A telephone line was provided for the Hongkong Telephone Company for communication with the Shek O Club.

Cable Reserve Signs were mounted on the G.P.O. Building and at the Kowloon-Canton Railway Station.

51. Maintenance of Sewers, Nullahs, &c.—The sewers, storm-water drains, and trained nullahs generally were cleansed, repaired, and maintained in good condition; the open nullahs and channels in the City of Victoria and in the Shaukiwan District being cleansed by the Sanitary Department. The automatic flushing tanks were operated during periods of low tide; deposits were cleared as they occurred.

On account of the high tenders received for the Annual Maintenance Contract of 1925, the whole of the maintenance of sewers, nullahs, &c., was carried out departmentally.

The septic tanks at Lugard Road, Repulse Bay, and near R.B.L. 137, Pokfulam Road, were periodically sludged.

All metal work in connection with the various drainage systems was inspected, and, where found necessary, repaired and tarred.

Repairs were effected to sewers, stormwater drains, and nullahs, the most important being to those situated as shown below:
