Blake Garden.-The small number of flowering shrubs and grass plots which remain were kept in good order up to the month of July.
On July 17th the falling debris from a number of houses which collapsed in Po Hing Fong, broke down the fences on the upper side of the garden and buried a number of shrubs and grass plots; the remainder of the debris amounting to some hundreds of tons when dealt with by the Public Works Department was dumped in the garden which is the only open space adjoining the scene of the collapse.
The garden has been closed to the public until further notice.
West End Park.-Undergrowth was regularly cleared and the Agave hedges repaired as required.
Camphor trees were treated with insecticide to prevent damage by white ants. The lower portion of the Park is still on lease to the Principal of St. Stephen's Girls' College for use by the scholars as a playground.
King's Park, Kowloon.-Trees inside the boundaries of the park were given such attention as they required.
All ground inside the park which could be so treated was levelled and turfed by the Public Works Department and has been allotted to various clubs as bowling greens, tennis courts and football grounds.
Civil Hospital Grounds.—Large numbers of seedling annuals were supplied from the Botanic Gardens and raised for use in pots and beds in various parts of the grounds.
All lawns were kept in good order generally throughout the year; Blue Grass plots were repaired as required.
Grass plots, bamboo hedges and creepers on walls in the Lunatic Asylum were kept in good order.
Colonial Cemetery.-A number of old plots filled with old and worn-out shrubs were cleared, the old shrubs disposed of and the areas levelled and turfed, this has much improved the general appearance of the cemetery.
All turfed areas were regularly cut and kept in good order; a number of new graves were turfed.
Owing to the choking of the nullah which runs through the cemetery a large area of turf and flower beds was flooded and left buried under several feet of sand during the month of June.
