REPORT OF THE REGISTRAR OF THE SUPREME COURT FOR THE YEAR 1925.
1.-ORIGINAL JURISDICTION.
Six hundred and fifty (650) actions were instituted in this division of the Court during the year 1925, as against 350 in 1924. Two hundred and sixty-three (263) were disposed of during the year and 104 were settled or withdrawn before trial as against 195 and 60 respectively in 1924.
The claims amounted to $6,387,549.65 and the equivalents Hong Kong currency of £185.28.0d; Taels 6,000; Yen 2,588.91 and Yen 4,621.28.
The debts and damages recovered amounted to $2,358,349.51 as against $1,432,833.86.
The fees collected amounted to $22,931.70 as against $14,642.95 in 1924.
Tables setting out in detail the figures contained in this and the following paragraphs are printed at pages 01, 02, Y2 and Y3 of the Blue Book for the year 1925.
2. SUMMARY JURISDICTION.
Three thousand one hundred and seventy-one (3,171) actions were instituted during the year as against 3,243 in 1924.
The cases were disposed of as follows:- Settled or withdrawn 950, Judgment for the Plaintiff 1,328, Judgment for the Defendant 48, Nonsuit 25, Struck off, Dismissed, or Lapsed 72, and Pending 748 as against 1,195, 1,280, 74, 6, 41 and 647 respectively in 1924.
The claims amounted to $784,383.51 as against $607,632.27 in 1924, and the amounts recovered were $353,052.31 as against $267,290.98 in 1924.
The number of Rent Distress Warrants issued was 1,644, representing unpaid rents amounting to $311,361.95 of which $77,138.04 were recovered, as against 685, $100,843.94 and $20,709.13 respectively in 1924.
