3. Filling in Tidal Flat and cutting down Hills between Tai-koktsui and Fuk Tsun Heung-This work was referred to in paragraph 176 of the Report of the Director of Public Works for last year.
Progress was maintained in the work of depositing filling material obtained by cutting down the hills between Taikoktsui and Fuk Tsun Heung. A total quantity of about 75,000 cubic yards of filling was deposited during the year.
The work of dredging the trench in front of the extended reclamation was completed, and about 1,023 lineal feet of this trench filled with pell-mell rubble to the sea-wall foundation level.
The extension Southwards to the reinforced concrete bridge, Ivy Street, was continued.
Work on the bridge to be constructed South of Ivy Street for the purpose of carrying road and rail traffic was commenced by driving the reinforced concrete piles to form the foundations.
The contract for filling in about 8 acres of the tidal flat North of the Laichikok Road was almost completed at the end of the year.

The dumping of earth filling from the cutting at Mongkok was continued by locomotives and side tipping wagons. The transport of filling material from the cut above Taipo Road was continued by Decauville trucks. Towards the end of the year, the contractor was permitted to obtain filling material by cutting down to formation level the hill on the railway reserve at Mongkok, The quantity of earth filling deposited in the reclamation during the year amounted to about 700,000 cubic yards.
