Satisfactory progress was made with the construction of the nullah side-wall to protect the Western boundary of the reclamation. A total length of 602 feet of nullah wall was completed at the end of the year, except for the fixing of the coping.
The contract time expired on the 31st October. Since that date, the contractor's certificates have been subject to a deduction of $500 per week, being the penalty for non-completion of the work in contract time.

At the end of the year, the dredging of trenches for the quay-wall rubble mound foundations, and the deepening of the dock to the required levels were completed, except for the water cushion area at the Northern end, and the greater portion of the rubble foundation for the quay-wall was deposited. The construction of the round head on the West side, and 86 lineal feet of quay wall were almost completed.
Of the 640 lineal feet of nullah wall to be constructed, about 490 feet was completed and the concrete foundations for a further 45 feet were in place.

The work of depositing earth filling for the reclamation was continued. Progress with this work was not very satisfactory owing to the prevalence of Malarial Fever, and the difficult nature of the excavations from which the filling material was obtained. The total quantity of filling deposited during the year amounted to about 92,000 cubic yards.
