Good progress was maintained throughout the year, 56,800 c. yards of earth being cut and removed for the necessary filling at Matauchung.

Chatham Road, from the Bridge over the Railway to Cooke Street, was surfaced to its full width with "macadam" and tar-painted.

Most of the improvements proposed were held over pending further consideration of the Tramway scheme.

(c). Waterloo Road Extension (100-feet wide) Section between Waterloo Road and the Kowloon Boundary (estimate for 50-foot width).—This work was referred to in paragraph 173 (e) of last year's Report.

Work was maintained at a satisfactory rate of progress, but as the hill has been cut through and access effected, it was not necessary to push this work further; the labour was, therefore, diverted to more urgent works.

Good progress was maintained throughout the year, by the end of which an area of 366,000 sq. ft. had been cut to formation level and 75,000 c. yds. of material removed from the line of road.
