After making a detailed inspection of the site during the preliminary survey, it was found that the cost of this work would be rather prohibitive and the scheme has consequently been abandoned.

137. Stanley Mound West, Catchwater.—This work was referred to in paragraph 145 of last year's Report.
By the end of the year, a length of about 3,000 feet of catchwater has been completed to overflow level, and a further length of 2,000 feet excavated to formation level, while the excavation of the remaining part of the Catchwater has reached footpath level. A considerable amount of rock was encountered retarding the progress of the work. During the second half of the year, good progress was made and the work has since been advancing more rapidly.
