There was no sign of development in this District until very late in the year. The only expense incurred was in December for pipes issued for commencement of this work early in the new year.

153. Bunkers, Taitam Tuk Pumping Station.-It was considered advisable to postpone this work until the additional Pumping Plant referred to in P.W.E. 45 has been installed. No expenditure was incurred during the year.

154. Coaling Bunkers, Pokfulam Road.-In July, an order was issued to Messrs. Kin Lee & Co., the Maintenance Contractors for the year, for the demolition of existing coal store at above station, and the erection of the new bunkers.

Progress was slow, and, by the end of the year, the walls only of the new bunkers had been built.

155. New Rising Main to 750 feet Tank (9′′).—Wrought Iron Pipes of 8′′ diameter with screwed-on flange joints were ordered from England in April, but, as they did not arrive in the Colony until very late in the year, it was not possible to commence the work of laying before the end of December.

156. Conduit and Hatton Roads Development Scheme :--

(a). Diverting Peak Pumping Mains,

(a.) Work was started in January and completed in March, as far as work on new road would permit.
(b) As the new alignment is partly along the new road still under construction, little work was possible.

157. Universal Meterage.-During the year, several public meetings were held to discuss this matter, and the Chinese Community expressed themselves against the scheme, which was therefore not proceeded with for the time being.

Sample meters were obtained from England from all large Meter Manufacturers, and exhaustive tests carried out, the results of which being embodied in a general report.
