PROVISIONAL URBAN COUNCIL

Services Department, there is no better material available on the market as substitute for 'multi-layer acrylic colour coating'.

Regarding replacement cost, the cost of 'multi-layer acrylic colour coating' is about HK$250 per square metre.

The second part of the question enquires about the durability of the coating material for other recreational facilities of the Council, such as the artificial turf soccer pitches, running tracks in athletic grounds and the surface of squash courts.

The durability of the surface coating material for other recreational facilities of the Council, such as the artificial turf soccer pitches, running tracks in athletic grounds and squash courts, is mainly determined by the paving method of the material and directly related to the usage rate of the venues. Generally speaking, the average life span of the artificial turf soccer pitches is about 8 to 10 years, for the running tracks in athletic grounds, about 7 to 8 years, and the surfaces of squash courts have the longest life span, being over 20 years in most cases.

The third part of the question enquires about the annual maintenance cost of the Council's recreational facilities and its percentage in the total expenditure of the recreational facilities.

According to information provided by the Architectural Services Department, a total of about HK$260 million was expended on the maintenance on all PUC facilities in 1997/98; 59.1% of which, or around HK$153 million, was used for the maintenance of recreational facilities.

In 1997/98, the Council spent a total of about HK$1,286 million on the provision of recreational services, 11.89% of which was for the maintenance of recreational facilities.
