have become full, if the refuse is removed at a frequency different from normal daily practice?
Mr. Wong Kwok-HING (in Cantonese):—With regard to this question and Mr. Fred Li's question referring in particular to job arrangements on weekends, as I have just mentioned, we will refer this matter to the Public Health Select Committee and ask the Department to deploy additional staff as well as to consider the arrangements of clearing refuse at regular intervals if there is such a need. As for Sundays, besides deployment of additional staff, there are also arrangements for clearing refuse at regular intervals. I have responded to this point in the beginning, so I am not going to repeat. If we are to boost measures on weekends, I think the same practice can be adopted on weekends as it is for Sundays and public holidays.
Mr. Kam Nal-WAI (in Cantonese):—In the reply, it was said that in the vicinity of the City Hall, in Chater Garden and also in the pedestrian precincts, there were usually USD officers stationed in the areas. But other than the core areas such as the vicinity of the City Hall mentioned by Mr. Daniel To, for example, Chiu Lung Street, do we have USD officers stationed there? The reply has mentioned the deployment of additional staff; is there any specific measures being taken? With regard to manpower level, does the Department deploy manpower basing on the situation of manpower shortage? Or how is manpower being deployed? Can we be given a more specific reply? This is the first question.
The second question is, other than refuse, there is also the complaint of lack of toilet facilities. As far as environmental sanitation is concerned and with regard to mobile toilets, have you considered setting up mobile toilets in pedestrian precincts on Sundays?
The third question is, how much resources have been spent by the Council on educating foreign visitors to make proper use of the pedestrian precincts in the past? I should be grateful if replies could be given to the above questions.
MR. WONG KWOK-HING (in Cantonese):-In fact, other than Statue Square in Central, the Department has been keeping a close eye on the blackspots of the neighbouring areas, and additional staff have been deployed. So, the answer to this question is in the affirmative.
The second question is about the setting up of mobile toilets. The question goes beyond the original ambit of Mr. To's question. Now that it is put forward by Mr. KAM Nai-wai, I think this question will be referred back to the Public Health Select Committee to see whether mobile toilets should be set up. We will study the matter at Select Committee meetings, should there be a need and should there be justification, we will go ahead.
As for the resources spent on publicity and education of foreign visitors, the Public Health Select Committee has prepared detailed information on expenditure
