(c) To promote the appreciation of music especially among the young people by presenting more public concerts of Western and Chinese music by local and international artists at low admission prices.
(d) To present a festival of arts to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the opening of the old City Hall in 1869.
(e) To continue to encourage the full usage of the City Hall facilities by the public.
Museum and Art Gallery
11. (a) To continue to develop and expand the Museum and Art Gallery Services in the Colony along the lines of the Select Committee's Report on Museum and Art Gallery Services.
(b) To expand the education and extension services of the Museum.
(c) To work towards the expansion of museum services outside the City Hall.
(d) To continue to organize temporary exhibitions which are of interest and educational value to the public.
(e) To give priority to the section of the Museum devoted to local archaeology in order to discover and describe details of the early life of the area.
(f) To give priority to the section of the Museum devoted to local history and ethnography in order to describe the immediate local scene—its people and environment.
12. (a) To continue to improve library services for the public in accordance with the general Aims and Policy of the Urban Council for Public Libraries already adopted.
(b) To continue the systematic building up of the book stock in the Urban Council Public Libraries with emphasis on the particular needs of the community.
(c) To consolidate and expand the existing services with particular efforts to cater for the younger generation.
(d) To work towards the opening of more branch libraries by implementing the library expansion programme.
(e) To raise the standard of the staff's professional knowledge through more intensive in-service training.
(f) To establish a "pilot reading room" in Whitfield Park and to explore means for the provision of such additional reading rooms as may be proved necessary.
HONG KONG URBAN COUNCIL
RESETTLEMENT
13. (a) To continue the programme of resettling all persons who are classed as eligible for resettlement; and in the management and administration of estates and cottage areas, to continue to institute measures designed to improve the living conditions of the residents and to integrate them into the general community.
(b) To keep under review the policy and priorities for resettlement as laid down in the White Paper entitled "Review of Policies for Squatter Control, Resettlement and Government Low Cost Housing, 1964" and to suggest amendments.
(c) Pending realization of the long-term objective of allocating space at 35 square feet for each adult in all types of resettlement accommodation, to urge Government to implement the policy of counting children over the age of 6 as adults for new allocations of accommodation in Mark IV blocks.
(d) To continue the programme of installation of individual water supplies to rooms in the Mark III and older Mark IV blocks.
(e) To continue to seek the co-operation of the Education Department to have secondary and vocational schools available within reasonable access of resettlement estates.
Hygiene
14. (a) To continue to urge Government to expedite the production of legislation for the management of multi-storey buildings in order to facilitate sanitary control of such buildings and their environs.
(b) To co-operate with the Labour Department in the implementation of air pollution control policy.
(c) To advise and co-operate with Resettlement Department in matters concerning the environmental hygiene of Resettlement Estates, Squatter Areas and Resite Areas.
(d) To abate sanitary nuisances by continuing routine house inspections.
(e) To continue the daily chlorination of public wells.
(f) To continue to prevent breeding of malarial mosquitoes in the urban areas.
(g) To extend the control of fly breeding in undeveloped areas.
