Your telegram No. 414 [of August 29th: Mr. John Keswick]
Colonial Office have no objection to attachment of John Keswick to British force of occupation subject to agreement of hear Admiral Harcourt. As regards his functions, Colonial Office feel, and we agree, that it would be more appropriate if he served as a link between military administration in Hong Kong on the one hand and His Majesty's Embassy at Chungking (of which he is a Counsellor) and SEAC on the other. This would also, however, be a matter for OTP. agreement with Rear-Admiral Harcourt.
