Refers to F.E.(E)(45)3rd Meeting (F 922/149/61) Note by the Colonial Office concerning the rehabilitation of Hong Kong. It is suggested in considering Hong Kong's desiderata in regard to China
the common interest aspect should not be overlooked. Any reference to this would require to be carefully worded so as not to suggest any uncertainty as to His Majesty's Government's intention to resume their sovereign authority in the Colony.

At the 3rd meeting of the Far Eastern
Sconomic subcommittee on the
"
on the 7 "Bebruary, the C.O. said they would put in a note to the subcommittee on "Our Colonial interests in China, with particular ref'ce to Hong Kong". I don't think much of the CO. note myself. It might for instance have stated in more detail what Hongkong's
is "main economic interests in relation to China" are.
As for para. 7, the CO. really can't imagine there is any prospect of an extension of the
lease of the New Territories.
