(2) A Deputy Immigration Officer and an Assistant Immigration Officer shall, subject to such limitations as may be prescribed by rules, have all the powers and per- form all the duties conferred and imposed on the Immi- gration Officer by this Ordinance or any rules made thereunder.

Part I.
ADMISSION OF ALIENS INTO THE COLONY.
4. (1) The Governor may, by notification in the Gazette, exempt from the provisions of this Part, either generally or subject to such conditions as he may impose, any alien--
(a) entering or landing in the Colony from another part of the Colony or from any Malay State under His Majesty's protection;
(b) entering or landing in the Colony from any particular country, territory or place;
(c) being of any particular sex, age or occupation;
[Amended by Ordinance 5 of 1934, S. 3.] (d) being in lawful possession of a valid certificate of admission issued under section 23, or of a valid certificate of residence issued under section 26, or of any such certificate or other document issued by the Government of any Malay State under His Majesty's protection as may be declared to have the validity of such certificate of admission or certificate of residence.
(2) The onus of proving that any alien is exempted under subsection (1) shall be on the person alleging the
same.
5. No alien shall land or disembark except at such land only at places as the Governor may by notification in the Gazette appoint in the ports of Singapore, Penang, Malacca and Labuan, as defined in the Merchant Shipping Ordinance (Chapter 150).

6. (1) The master of any ship having aliens on board shall, on arrival within signalling distance of any of the ports mentioned in section 5, hoist such signal as
