Dear Gent,
Dr. Chen, the Chinese Chargé
d'Affaires, called on 10th June and
referred to the new immigration
regulations at Hong Kong. He stated that
the Chinese Government were grateful
there ties/ha
that the British authorities had
waived the necessity for a visa on
Chinese passports. Chinese residents
in Hong Kong had, however, strongly
represented to the Chinese Government
that it would be desirable that
reference in the regulations to the
necessity for such a visa, so far as
Chinese nationals were concerned, should
be deleted. The Chinese Government
concurred in this view and enquired
whether we should be prepared to do this.
We had not heard about the waiver
of a visa on Chinese passports before
and I should be grateful if you would
