Dr. Chen, Chinese Chargé d'Affaires, referred to-day

to the new immigration regulations at Hong Kong.

He said that the Chinese Government were grateful

that our authorities had waived the necessity for a visa

on Chinese passports. Chinese residents in Hong Kong

had, however, strongly represented to the Chinese

Government that it would be desirable that reference

in the regulations to the necessity for such a visa,

in so far as Chinese nationals were concerned, should be

deleted. The Chinese Government concurred in this

view and enquired whether we should be prepared to do this.
