Japanese activities in Hong Kong.

Transmits copy Hong Kong telegram No. 7688 of 9th August intimating that reliable reports from Macau states that representative of Mutsui is enquiring for storage space for 3,000 tons of miscellaneous cargo from Hong Kong. Local reports state that Yokohama Specie Bank shipped their archives to Japan on last voyage of Asmara Maru and N.Y.K. are also reported to be sending away archives. This is not regarded as indicating imminent Japanese attack on Colony but tends to show local merchants may have been "tipped" to expect period of considerable tension in Anglo-Japanese relations in near future.
