Through the medium of a local paper, it has

come to my attention that a meeting of a political

character was hold on the Tung Tan Pai Lou glacis on the

evening of Tuesday, 18 July last.

It has long been an established practice to

prohibit the holding of meetings of a political character

in the Diplomatic Quarter or the Glacis surrounding it.

This was with a view to precluding the possibility of dis-

turbing the good order and peace of the Diplomatic quarter.

We, the International Guards, are responsible

to our respective governments for the security of our

diplomatic representatives and their entourages, our

nationals, and property within the Diplomatic Quarter.

Therefore, every means placed at our disposal should be

employed in maintaining the peace and security which the

diplomatic representatives of many nations residing therein

have so long enjoyed.

Any act, actual or proposed, which in any way

tends to jeopardize the peace and security of the Diplomatic

Quarter should be reported to the Senior Commandant

immediately.
