attempt was made but attitude of sentries became so threaten-

ing that covering force had to he fallen in on board H.M.S.

SCARAB. Japanese alleged this force was landed but have

since withdrawn statement and apologised for it.

Local

Army however will not accept orders from Shanghai and have

intimidated Chinese bringing supplies to H.M.S. SCARAB.

N.L.O. has matter in hand at Shanghai and local .

representations are being made.
