Subject:- ADMIRALTY TIDE TABLES INFRINGEMENT OF COPYRIGHT.
From.
Date. To.
The Commanding Officer, H.M.S. SANDWICH.
10th July, 1939. The Commander-in-Chief,
China Station.
at Weihaiwei.
No.33.
Submitted.
The accompanying copies of the Admiralty Tide Tables, Parts II and III, are forwarded for your inspection. They appear to be in all respects similar to those published by H.M. Stationery Office, but on the title page the note
Published by order of the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty. Crown Copyright reserved.", together with certain other details of publication and price, has been omitted.
2. These Tide Tables were obtained by my Navigating Officer from the Second Officer of S.S. KANCHOW (Messrs. Butterfield and Swire) whilst in Tientsin recently, in exchange for the equivalent Stationery Office copies, of which a duplicate set was held on board.
3.
The information given with them was that they were purchased in Shanghai from a Chinaman who visited S.S.KANCHOW He stated that he was not the publisher himself but merely an agent for him. The price paid for each volume was $4.00.
4. It is understood that these books are copied from the genuine publications by some photographic process, and that other Admiralty publications, including the Admiralty Manual of Navigation, Volumes I and II, are obtainable from the same source.
5.
Each book bears a label at the back in Chinese, and it is thought that this may give the name of the publisher.
