Dear Woolcock,

With further reference to your letter of the 14th March, there is no information in this Depart- ment about the negotiations for a barter agreement between the Chinese and German Governments. We understand from the Foreign Office, however, that negotiations between Otto Wolf and the Chinese Government at Chungking for renewal for five years of the 1936 Sino-German barter agreement are be- lieved to be in progress. Discreet enquiries are being made by our Diplomatic Mission and as soon as the results of these are known the Foreign Office has undertaken to inform us.

Yours sincerely,

(sgd) R. KEITH JOPSON.

W. J.U. Woolcock, Esq.,

Government Relations Department,
