I learn from what I believe to be a reliable German
source that Otto Wolff's representative here has been invited
to Chungking by Minister of Communications. Visit is
reported to be connected with negotiation of five year Sino-
German credit arrangement (presumably for the purchase of
materials by China) on guarantee of Bank of China and it is also rumoured that a agents in China are actively working
for renewal of Sino-German Barter Agreement of 1956. I am
