Copy telegram No. 952 (1239/22) of 22nd July 1939 from Commodore i/c Hong Kong.
Senior Naval Officer Canton reports that all Chinese entering and leaving Shame en were stopped and rigorously searched by Japanese military. Ostensible reason is that Japanese military yen are being traded for Chinese currency there. No foreigners have so far been molested.
