GEVERAL ISMAY.
Whenever the Fleet is moving from Alexandria
to the Central Mediterranean reinforcements should be carried in to alta, which I consider to be in grievous danger at the present time. These reinforcements should be found by taking Battalions from the Canal zone and replacing them by dismounted Yeomanry or Australian details now in Palestine, or by South African Units presently to be moved from Kenya. Pray let me have proposels on these lines, and make sure that at least one Battalion goes to Lalta on the next occasion. Ve cannot waste Regular Battalions on internal security duties in Egypt. If they were needed for the Field Army they would of course be irremoveable but that is not what they are being used for.
