SEABORNE AND AIRBORNE ATTACK ON THE UNITED KINGDOM.

Report by the Joint Planning Sub-

Committee.

In accordance with instructions, we have examined the tabular statement prepared by the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee and attached as an Annex to C.0.S. (40) 465 (J.I.C.). The Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee in submitting this tabular statement have made the following alterations to the original statement circulated as Paper No. C.0.s. (40) 445:-

2.

(a) All suggestions as to the sequence of the

forms of enemy attack have been deleted for the reasons set out in paragraph 3 of 0.0.S.(40) 465 (J.I.C.).

(b) Certain additions have been made to the scale

of enemy attack in accordance with the instructions+of the Chiefs of Staff.

The table prepared by the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee contained the column from C.0.S. (40) 445 indicating the action necessary to meet the various forms of enemy attack, We suggest that this is unnecessary, and we have accordingly deleted it from the attached revised draft.

3. The statement in its present form is therefore purely a broad summary of intelligence and may be regarded as supplementary to the "comprehensive and co-ordinated summary of likely forms and scales of attack" prepared by the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee on the 6th June, which has already been forwarded to the Commander-in-Chief, Home Forces. For this reason we suggest that this tabulated paper should not be styled a directive but should be sent to the Commander-in-Chief as a Summary of Intelligence for his information only.

4.

At our request the Joint Intelligence Sub-Committee have inserted a few additional notes in the remarks columns.
