Note. In the case of vessels clearing for foreign parts this form will be attached to the ship's papers, and, in the case of coasting vessels, will be attached to the transire.

N.B.-The dotted lines indicate the actual size of the green card on which the form of clearance to be used at ports in the United Kingdom has been printed. For the sake of uniformity, and in order to facilitate the work of His Majesty's ships, it is suggested that the form used at oversea British ports should be printed on a green card of the size shown.

APPENDIX IV.

NOTICE OF DETENTION.

To be served upon the Masters of Ships in Port which are to be detained.

YOU are hereby to take notice that the above-named vessel is under detention at this port, and that any attempt to move the vessel without the written authority of the Detaining Officer in charge of this port will be a breach of the detention, for which you and all other members of the crew thereof will be held responsible, and may result in the seizure or destruction of the vessel.

Possession has been taken of the ship's papers, together with the following documents :—
