NOTICE TO MASTERS AND OWNERS OF SHIPS.
SPECIAL Customs ClearaNCE FOR SHIPS LEAVING PORT.
THE Commissioners of Customs and Excise hereby give notice that on and after this date every ship proceeding foreign or coastwise, whether with cargo or in ballast, except as hereinafter exempted, is required to obtain from the Collector or other proper Officer of Customs and Excise at the Custom-house a special
CLEARANCE
before leaving the port.
The concession under which coastwise ships carrying certain goods are exempted from clearance is hereby withdrawn.
Any attempt to leave the port without obtaining such Clearance may result in the seizure or destruction of the ship.
The Clearance must be preserved for production on demand to any Officer of His Majesty's Army, Navy, Marines, Coastguard, Customs and Excise, or any Constable or Police Officer of any county, city, or borough in the United Kingdom, or any person employed in any such capacity, and is valid only for the voyage specified thereon.
Exemption.
British fishing-boats not carrying bonded stores or cargo other than fish and appliances for carrying on the business of a sea fisherman are not required to obtain a Clearance. Clearances will, however, be issued for such boats if desired.
