county council " for the expression "county justices" or B "justices in quarter sessions assembled," and with the substitu- tion of the expression "clerk of the county or his deputy" for the expression "clerk of the peace or his deputy," and all juris- diction exerciseable by, and any act authorised or required to be done in any place to or by, the county licensing committee 10 appointed by the justices shall be cxerciseable by, and authorised and required to be done to or by, the council appointed in pur- suance of this Act, of the county as defined by this Act in which such place is situate; and any act authorised or required to be done to or by the clerk of the peace or his deputy in respect 15 of licensing shall be authorised or required to be done to or by the clerk of the county or his deputy, and any power or privilege of certifying documents to be true copies, or other power or privilege conferred by the Licensing Acts on the clerk of the peace or his deputy, shall, at and after the aforesaid day, vest in 20 and be conferred on the clerk of the county or his deputy.

(7.) The liberty of Ripon shall, for the purposes of the county licensing committee, in respect of the confirmation of licenses, continue to be a petty sessional division of the county of the West Riding of York, and not to be a county of itself.

(8.) Any appeal in relation to licensing which might, if this Act had not been passed, bave been had to the general or quarter sessions of the peace holden for the county or place where the cause of complaint arose may, on and after the aforesaid day, be had to the county council of the county as defined by this Act in 30 which the cause of complaint arose.

(9.) If any person wilfully gives false evidence in any pro- ceeding under the Licensing Acts before the county council or any committee or members thereof he shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. (10.) Nothing in this section shall authorise the county council, 33 or any committee or members thereof, to declare any license to be forfeited or (to do any other act or thing which is not concerned with licensing as defined by this section.

(11.) The expression “licensing" or "licensing of houses for the "sale of intoxicating liquor" means--
