ORDERS TO CORPS AT THE PRECAUTIONARY AND WAR STAGES.

(1.)—Royal Garrison Artillery.

(i.) At the Precautionary Stage.

1. Os. C. companies and O.C.H.K.S.B., R.G.A., will at once make the necessary arrangements for the distribution of their officers and men in batteries and posts in accordance with the Table B (i), Chapter II.

2. Unless orders to contrary are received, movable armament guns with a comple- ment of 50 rounds per piece will be at once taken out to the positions assigned for them in Table, paragraph

These guns manned by the Volunteers will be taken by coolies to their mobilization positions under guard detailed by O.C. 88th Company, R.G.A.

3. No requisitions for transport are required. Coolies for the transport of baggage, equipment, and ammunition will be supplied at the places noted on the requisitions, copies of the latter being in the custody of each unit.

4. Except as regards the movable armament guns manned by the Volunteers, Os.C. companies will provide the necessary men and stores for moving the guns. Coolies are supplied for moving ammunition by the A.S.C. Guards will be mounted on the guns by Os.C. companies.

5. Each man will receive 60 rounds of s.a.a. Baggage will be stored in front of the guard room, 60 lb. per officer, 20 lb. per man. The men will be marched off by the orderly officer.

6. Os.C. companies will arrange to issue on parade those necessary articles of mobilization equipment held by them at the various batteries.

6A. Indents should admit of sufficient chloride of lime being available for each post, also for sufficient extra signalling gear to complete to war requirements, mosquito curtains, and extra blankets for exposed positions.

7. Guards, &c., will be relieved daily one hour before sunset, arrangement of reliefs being under the O.C. company.

8. The following sentries will be posted at each battery

By day-1 flying sentry.

By night-1 sentry over guns, 1 sentry over gate and fence.

A look-out will be on duty at each fire command post by day and night.

P.F. specialists and telephonists will remain at their posts day and night.

9. The guns will always be kept ready for action, a sufficiency of ammunition being kept ready in the recesses.

10. Machine guns with ammunition will be handed over to the infantry according to their requirements.

11. The Fire Commanders will report daily to C.R.A. as to the state of the telephone communication throughout their commands and the progress being made with

further defence of forts and posts as laid down in Table E (11), Chapter III.
