YORKSHIRE LEADS KIWIS ON FIRST INNINGS

Sheffield, July 28-—An attractive century by the former England captain, Norman Yardley, his first of the season, and an aggressive in- ninge of 51 by young Brian Close helped Yorkshire to gain a first innings Jead of 60 against the New Zealanders after half the side had been dis-

missed for 111.

Yardley produced his fiest form of the summer and his stroke play was as attractive as anything previously seen in the game. Always eager for runs, he reached 50 in 100 minutes and his 100 in two and three-quarter hours. His three figure partnership with Close Insted only 75 minutes.

Yardley was still undefeated, having hit 14 fours when the Yorkshire inn- Ingo closed at 821 in reply to the touring team's 201.

In the remaining 50 minutes of play the New Zealanders scored 42 for the loss of Sutcliffe's wicket.
