ROCKET MAIL-Scientists at Trona, California, place a rocket in a launching ramp, left, during an experiment with rocket mail. The rockets are 11 feet long and contain 35 pounds of propellant. The rockets are fired electrically from a distance of 100 yards and take off, right, in a burst of smoke. This one travelled a mile and a half, reached a helght of 4,000 feet and a speed of 400 miles an hour.
