SINGAPORE, Feb. 18 (lieuter) ----- As a result of discussions between the Chinese Consul and the Government, a lower rate of exchange for Straits declares against the Chinese national currency is probable.
If this comes about, the rate will be made to correspond more closely to the market rate.
It has been pointed out to the Government that the official rate of the Straits dollar against the Chinese national currency is higher than the market rate by about 10 per cent., entailing a loss to the Chinese com- munity who remit money to China.
