DAMAGE DONE AT TARANTO: OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHS

The three photographs on this page were taken on reconnaissance by the floyal Air Force after the crippling attack on the Italian fleei al Taranto by the Fleet Air Arm on the night of November 11/12 last.

A better appreciation of the pletures may be gained if a glahco is given first to the map below, which shows the position of the Italian bailleships before the attack (A) and the positions to which they were towed afterwards (B). Figures 3, 4 and 5 Are undamaged battleships. Туга cruisers which were also damaged are ahown (7 and 8).

Top picture shown a Cavour clams battlesltips down by the bows and benched on the northeast shore of the outer harbour, (Nos. GA and GB on map).

The lower left-hand picture shows 35,000-ton bailleship of the Littorio clams badly down by the bows in the merchant anchorage in the middle of the outer harbour, Salvaro ships and fugs are alongside, with oll on the water. (No. 1A and 11 on map).

Lower right-hand picture shows a 23,022-ton battleship of the Cavour clam beached on the east whore of the outer harbour. There is a heavy list to starboard, with the whole of the starboard sido submerged. The stern is completely submerged aft of rear gun turreta. - There Is oll on the water. On the right, another battle- ship of the Cavour class.
