LONDON, SEPT. 25 (UP),IT IS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED THAT ALL ALLIED FORCES ARE BEING WITHDRAWN FROM DAKAR BECAUSE IT IS REALISED THAT ONLY A MAJOR BATTLE COULD SECURE VICTORY IN THAT REGION.
THE OFFICIAL STATEMENT OBSERVED THAT THE WITHDRAWAL WAS DECIDED FRENCH SUBMARINES AND UPON AFTER BRITISH WARSHIPS HAD SUNK TWO CARRIED OUT AN ARTILLERY DUEL WITH THE FRENCH BATTLESHIP RICHELIEU, AND THE SHORE BATTERIES.
Earlier in the day claims had been advanced that Dakar had been captured, but General de Gaulle corrected this impression by announcing that he and his followers had withdrawn over- night, and that to-day's action was carried out solely by British air and naval forces.

Allied forces are now being withdrawn from the Dakar region in order to save the lives of Frenchmen, and the circumstancos which led to their withdrawal are explained in a Ministry of Information announcement, says "Router."
