PARIS, May 31. OFFICIAL French ircles are not dismayed by M. Molotoff's reserved attitude to the latest Anglo-French proosals, and express the opinion that an agreement is certain and that matters remaining for dcussion are points of detail.

The official Soviet rey is expected to-morrow, and it will be carefully but rapidly studied. It is believed here tht the dimculties seen by the Soviet in the proposals relate especial. ly to two points,

DENMARK SIGNS "NO-WAR" PACT

BERLIN, May 31.

THE PACT of Non-Aggression agreed upon by Denmark and Germany was signed in Berlin to-day.

The Pact fixes a common frontier for the two countries, cach of whom agree not to attack the other.

Denmark was the only Scandinavian country to accept Hitler's offer of a pact, Norway, Sweden and Holland rejecting the offer on the grounds that they were strictly noutral and no such pact was necessary.

The pact is of vital im- portance to both Denmark and Germany. It assures, if Hitler's word can be trusted, that Denmark will bo freo from invasion,

It also assures, as in tho 1914-18

the war.

Kicl Canal will be impregnablo unless Gormany's enomics disregard Danish noutrality.

The pact with Denmark is part of Hitler's diplomatic drive to offset the Anglo- France-Russia peace front.

LESS THAN seven months after arriving in China to take up his new appointment as Military Attache to the British Embassy in China, Lt. Col. C. R. Spear, M.C., has fallen into the hands of Japanese gendarmerie.

Despite Lt. Col. Spear's own protests, which will doubtless be backed up to-day by protests from the British authorities, Lt. Col. Spear is being held in close cus- tody.

No charges have been laid against him, and the Japanese are refusing to permit anyone to see him,

IN COLONY LAST YEAR

Lt. Col. Spear arrived in Hongkong on October 20 last year, to take up his appointment, to which he was seconded from the Somerset Light Infantry.

After leaving Hongkong, he proceeded to Chungking via Hanol and Kunming and last February set out from the Chinese war-time capital to inspect the Chinese lines. The Military Attache's tour carried him through Hupeh, Human. Shensi and Shansi provinces.

Whilst in the latter province, he was apparently cut off from the rear by the Japanese offensive and decided to attempt to reach Tientsin by passing through the Chinese and Japanese lines. CROSSED FRONT LINES

According to London reperis, Lt. Col. Spear suc- ceeded in crossing into Japanese territory without dim- culty and immediately reported to the Japanese m authorities at Shutsun, a railway town about t west of Kalgan.

Neither his explennithedlately placed under arrest Was PR to Japanese Headquarters at Kolgan. "Desplic protests, the Japanese authorities in Kalgan also refuse to accept his credentials.

In a statement last night, the Japanese commander at Kalgan said:
