It was blowing hard from the south-east with heavy seas and tor- rential rain, bul volunteers from the local ambulance brigade came for- ward to make the journey.
After three hours battling, the Salvor, with Skipper Kirkoldie in command, arrived back in port with Seaman A. G. Nash of Commercial Road, London.
CRUSHED BY CABLE
He had been crushed by the heavy cable of the lightship and was suffer- ing from a fractured pelvis.
Skipper Kirkaldie said: "It was one of the most terrible tasks I have ever been set.
"Nosh was in great agony. The sea was to heavy that we dared not attempt to get him aboard the moter-
boat until we had lashed him to the
stretcher with ropes. Then we had to wait our opportunity as the Salvor rose on the crisi of a wave to swing the stretcher out from the lightship.
"When we got him on board we were pitching so badly that to prevent the stretcher slipping we had to tie it to the deck. Seas broke over us all the way and we rigged up a shelter for Nash with spars and tarpaulin."

Mrs. Hilda Thurling said this at Stowmarket, Suffolk, about her 18- year-old carpenter son who was applying to the magistrates for per- mission to marry his 10-year-old sweetheart, fair-hufred lvy Kécbis, of Hop Pole Cottages, Stowmarket.
Mrs. Thurling had travelled from her home in Norwich to oppose the application.
Holding that the, mother was jus- fled in withholding her consent, the magistrates dismissed the application.
Ivy said:
"Frank earns more than £3 a week, which is quite enough to start a home with. We are very much in love, and I think it a shame that they will not let us marry and have a home of our own. I gave up my Job a few weeks ago becauDo thought I would be getting married.
"It is not true that Frank k Birtatious, I know he will always be true to me, and we shall get married just as soon as he is old enough."
Ivy's mother, who is also in favour of the match, said: "I am looking forward to seeing them married and settled down together in a home of their own. They are very fond of ench other, and I know ivy would make, a good wife although she is only 18."
