MAGNETIC STORM SWEEPS OVER HALF THE WORLD
Upset Britain's Thousands

Kept Ringing
A MAGNETIC storm, caused by a giant sunspot, upset Britain's telophone system recently. Thousands of 'phone bells in houses all over the country kept ringing, but the mystified .sub. scribers lifted the receivers only to find no ono calling them.
The trouble was not confined to Britain. The storm raged over half the world. In many parts of America and Canada ali telephone and telographic communication was cut off several hours,

An Air Ministry official revealed to the spot' collide with atmospheric field and cause the Sunday Dispatch that more magnetic storms are storm. If this had happened during the night coming in the next few months.
"We
approaching a period of maximuun sun-spot activity," he added, "Sun spots come in 11-year cycles, and we are due to reach the maximum intensity of one of these cycles at the end of this summer."
POST OFFICE WAS WARNED
The Astronomer Royal, Mr. H. Spencer Jones, told the Sunday Dispatch that the sunspot was observed at Greenwich Observatory and that the Post Office was at once warned.
"The sunspot, which was ten times larger than the surface of the world, caused a magnetic storm 60 miles above the surface of the earth," the Astronomer Royal added.
"The current of such a storm is usually a million amperes or more, and even at that great height can seriously interrupt tele- graphic communications.

ELECTRICITY "RUNNING LOOSE"
Seeking Gold' In Hampshire
AFTER growing watercress on 16 acres of land at
Fordingbridge, near Bournemouth, Mr. Bert Wootton. has decided to bore for gold there.
While helping to sink an artesian well he recovered several pieces of rock, which experts tell him contain traces of gold.
Specimen rocks, which have been sent to the South Kensington Science Museum, are also reported to contain, iron phosphates.
The rock is 45ft. down, and Mr. Wootton believes that it runs a course of fully a quarter of a mile along his land.
LONELY WOMAN GOES TO SEE SAME PICTURES
18 TIMES A WEEK
FEW people in Tooting, S.W., know how often little Miss Rose Tompkins goes to the pictures, for most people go to the same cinema only once a week whereas Miss Tompkins sometimes goes to the same cinema eighteen times a week.
Still fewer people have guessed the secret of why she goes so often, why she spends more than half her small income on the pictures.
"So much 'free' electricity is running loose

"The storms do no damage, but we get showers of complaints from people who can- not understand why their 'phones keep ringing."
The trunk exchange between Spalding and Wisbech was cut off. Wisbech was un- able to get London for some time. Notting- ham was out of touch with Skegness,
The telegraphs were only slightly affected. Some duplex machines, however, were unbalanced by the currents.
Took Grim Anti-Aircraft Secret To His Grave
A
N anti-aircraft invention, so horrible that he preferred to carry its secret with him to the grave, has been lost to Britain with the death of 8C-years-old Charles Truman, late surgeon- dentist to the Royal Household.
Mr. Truman claimed that by his invention fleets of enemy 'planes could be destroyed before ever they had the chance of releasing their cargo of death on crowded cities. Only a few weeks before his death recently he made an ap- pointment with a Government air raid oflicial.

FOOT ITCH
Athlete's Foot
According to the Govern-
ment Health Bulletin No. E-20, at least 50% of the
adult population of the United States are being attacked by the disease known as Athlete's Foot. ****
Usually the disease starts between the toes. Little watery blisters form, and the skin cracks and peels. After a while, the itching becomes intense, and you feel as though you would like to scratch wit all the skin.
BEWARE OF IT SPREADING Often the disease travels all over the bottom of the feet. The soles of your feet become red and swollen. The skin also cracks and peels, and the itching becomes worse and worse.
Get rid of this disease as quickly as possible, because it is very contagious and it may go to your hands or even to the under arm or crotch of the legs.
Most people who have Athlete's Foot have tried all kinds of remedies to cure it without success. Ordinary germicides, anti- septics, salve or ointments seldom do any good.
ton.
HERE'S HOW TO TREAT IT.
The germ that causes the disease is known as Tines Trichophy- It burles itself deep in the tissues of the skin and is very hard to dll. A test made shows it takes 15 minutes of boiling to kill the germ; so you can see why ordinary remedies are unsuccessful. H. F. was developed solely for the purpose of treating Athlete's Foot. It is a liquid that penetrates and dries quickly. You just paint the affected parts. It peels off the tissue of the skin where the germ breeds.
ITCHING STOPS IMMEDIATELY
As soon as you apply H. F. you will find that the itching is immediately relieved. You should paint the infested parts with H. F. night and morning until your feet are well. Usually this takes from three to ten days, although in severe cases it may take longer or in mild cases less time.
H. E. will leave the skin soft and imooth. You will marvel at' the quick way it brings you relief; especially if you are one of those who have tried for years to get rid of Athlete's Foot without
success.
