CLEVER IDEAS FOR THE HOME

PICTURES created

entirely

from cleverly mitred pieces of wood harmonise with rooms of any character. Yet there is no doubt that they look most imposing in a furnishing scheme glowing with off-white tints--or pastel tones.

A handsome new design in this type of picture shows study of two leopards realistic- ally inset with dozens of pieces of light woods-oak, elm, and ruse wood-into a dark walnut background.

Such pictures are, of course, without frames, or glass cover- ings. All the edges are gently rounded off.

Table Cookers VARIOUS new table cookers

have been designed recently. One of the latest cooks by radiant hent. The food is put on a metal plate, and the plate is covered by a sort of deep in- verted frying pan, fitted with electrical heating filament.

Food thus cooked is well- cooked. There are no wasted juices and, with minimum carê, the food will not be dried up.

It has been suggested as an ideal cooker on the breakfast table, when time is precious.

Bacon takes five minutes; eggs take about as long; and toast can be prepared this way, too.

What is more, the food in the cooker can be kept hot for twenty minutes after the cur- rent in the cooker has switched off.

Home Laundry THERE have been innovations lately in the ways and means of washing clothes. The newest idea is remarkable for its simpli- city.

n

It is merely the use of a suc- tion plungern rubber cup fitted with a perforated disc-on wooden handle. The clothes to be wushed are immersed in soapy water, and the plunger is used nerate and to gently squeeze. thoroughly cleanse them.

This means that the laundress need not put her hands into the water at all. She can tackle the most delicate materials this way, Baby's linen, stockings, laces and the rest will not be damaged.

The plunger can be used also for rinsing clothes, an ample supply of water being, of course, as essential as the plunger.

New Mop ANOTHER item likely to be appreciated by the busy housewife is a mop of a flexible handle. It can be passed under tables, cabinets, and other places usually inaccessible except by going on one's hands and knees with the polishing cloth.

After the flexible handle has -been used, it can be reversed so that it is quite rigid. Then it is ready for polishing the rest of the room.

The top of the mop is easily detached for washing and man- gling before being re-clipped in place.

Another thing they resented was that, according to them, modern gla are Alghty, extravagant and hard- hearted.

figures become, we have learned by experience that it is best to have something ready in the wardrobe.

That is why I have chosen to-day a warm weather coat and dress, suitable for a matronly figure-just in case the weather sets fair for Easter.

This is how I reasoned it out; when a woman begins to feel conscious that she is outsize she hates to bo parted from her coat, Hence the graceful long coat from Pontings in the sketch.

It is made in satin back marocain-a lovely hanging material and slimming as well.

The coat is cut on good tailored 'Unes, with scalloped revers and a single button fastening.

Now for the dress, I have selected three for you to choose from.

The first one is my favourite; it is so pretty and becoming a frock in uncrushable crope with a delightful all-over pattern of An inset tiny florets on a dark ground. vestee of beige softens the V-neck-line and it has a back tie waist belt.

Finally, I could not resist a spotted frock-white spots about the size of a pea on a dark ground, finished with ivory piping at the neck and a bow of the self material. Spots are so fresh and trim-looking, no wonder they are a popular fashion.

OW'S your waistline, Omeo Girls? An inch or two larger than it used to be? That's what comes of too much sitting.

Of course, you can't help being ed to a desk, but you can do something to stop i spolling your figure. Try not to sit in one position for too long a

time.

Be a bit of "Fidgety Phil." Straighten up, stretch and relax-from- time to time.

Then, for your waist, add this exer cise to the daily dozen. Stand up- right, feet a little apart and hands loonely to your sides.

Now bend over to the left, reaching down with your left hand as far as possible.

Straighten up and repeat on the right side. Do ench way alternately, about twenty times. It's splendid for a slender, supple watat.

Of course, exercise alone won't do it although it goes a long way towarda reducing. You must study diet, too, and keep off heavy foods now that spring is hero. Walking also helps.
