WILLIE HUNG UNFORTUNATE TO BE ELIMINATED
BEATEN AFTER
HOLDING SIX MATCH POINTS
THRILLING PLAY SEEN IN YESTERDAY'S TENNIS
(By "Verlias")
The unluckiest loser in the Colony tennis championships since C. A. L. Rumjahn and the late J. A. Cassumbhoy were beaten by the Rumjahn cousins in 1931, Willio Hung yesterday suffered the heart- breaking experience of being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the singles championship by H. D. Rumjahn after he had held altogether six match points, and had played the finest singles tennis of his
career.
Hung made the current champlon and although his valleying lost its appear almost second rate, so incisive mechanical consistency in accuracy, and clever was his tennis, but fate he was still able to win points from dealt him a cruel blow when in the the forecourt and to make Rumjahm eighth game of the final set. With scurry ilke fury to retrieve. Hung leading 6-1, he secured match point and then proceeded to bent Rumjahn completely with a perfect cross-court volley, only to see the ball clear the side line by a couple of Inclica.

But he came back strongly with his own delivery booth game, and hold five match points at various stages, only be thwarted by Ruminhn's dogged- ness, which by this time had become grim as to be menacing. With the loss of the vital tenth game, one realised that Hung had let slip his chance, and, after that, it would have been
surprising if he had won. Rumjan continued to plod along steadily, collecting the vital game points, and eventually won the set and the matel at 7-5.

He hed only one double fauit deblied against him during the entire mutch, His consistent ability to make good first service allowed him to advance with confidence to the net, from where he tucked the ball away for outright winners with cross-court

When he tried to force the pace a little too much in the closing stages he was inclined to go up on the wrong ball and enabled Rumjahn 10 pass him with fine shols down the line. Nevertheless, the balance of winning net forays was decidedly in favour of Hung, who served up the most enterprising and exciting tennis of the current tournament.

Promising Easter Races
Attractive Programme Drawn Up
(By "Captain Foster")
Entries for the Easter Meeting to be held on April 16 and 18 un- der the auspices of the Hong- kong Jockey Club closed yester- day, but I have not as yet been favoured with a copy. It is re- fiably learned that very good response has been received from the "C" and "D" classes of China ponies and the entries are to be divided into two sections at the discretion of the handicapper. However, an attractive program- me has been drawn up for the two days of racing and we may all look forward to a good Easter Carnival.
SUCCESSFUL MEET HELD AT MACAO LAST SUNDAY
Four Jockeys Unseated In One Afternoon
(By "Captain Foster")
Favoured with glorious sunshine and a nice cool breeze, the Macao Jockey Club held a very successful race meeting at. Árein Preta last Sunday. There was a bumper crowd of racing en- thusiasts, but many excursionists missed the boat, owing to the fact that the a.s. Kinahan left the wharf at least quarter of an hour before the advertised time in order to avoid taking on more steerage passengers. However, the trip across was ideal from every point of view and I am sure that everyone enjoyed it.

LEN HARVEY WINS CRUISER TITLE FROM MCAVOY
