American Sailors To Play Hongkong Stars

An

interesting basketball pro- gramme has been arranged for to- night at the Chinese Y.M.C.A., Bridges Street. A combined team from the two American warships in harbour, the U.S.S. Sacramento and the U.S.S. Mindanao, will play against the the Hongkong All Star team in feature game of a two-gamo pro- gramme.

Having already scored two con- vincing victories over the North China team, the Hongkong players are out to make three straight wins. The sailors have had a few practices the during the past week. under watchful eyes of coach Smith, and nre expected to give the local cagers a hard fight. Included in the line- up are "Speed" Colller, Townsend and Campbell, well-known to local baseball fans, having played with Pul Ching during the past summer lengue.

A Girls' Team

In a preliminary game, the Mul Fong Giris team, considered to be one of the strongest in Hongkong, will play a combined team from the rest of the League.

RETURNS FROM FURLOUGH

Mr.

manager

Guard, Harold

Hongkong

for the United Press Associations, has returned from al months furlough in England..

HAD a look at the Free Lances' court at the Seamen's Institute Just evening (living gone down there with the idea of "covering" their match with University, only to find it hus the had been postponed). It

of a fiest-rule, court, and especially attractive is the matting which covers the wooden floor. Once this has become fully stretched and free from "rucking" when players dash about on it, this surface will be in the Colony on one of the best which to play. It is easy on the feet, eliminates the dangers of sliding, and enables one to turn quickly. The only drawback about the court is the white walls and ceiling which make It hard to follow the fight of a fut shuttle. Experiments arc Being carried out with the lighting which is adequte, but not ideal in its or- dinary state. Greatest need, though, seems to be to darken the wall, which at the present throw a confusing re- flection on to the court.
