"This is the sixteenth annual report of the Society. As you all know the i mission of this Society is to protec young girls who have left parental custody from being B-treated by others who have control over them..

"The most important.question dur ing recent years is that of the so- called adopted-daughters. If protec tlon for them is not secured more or Jess similar to that now given to muitsals, then the mutsaj, system cannot be said to be satisfactorily abolished.

The been

"Marcover, the work of the Society is confined within the narrow limits of the Colony of Hongkong. mullsal systern, however, has prevalent in China for a long time. Therefore it is hoped that those who are interested in child welfare will Resist the Society In fighting against this antiquated system by gradual reformis. It efforts are not made to Introduce reforms then no good re- sulls can be expected.

"The following is a summary of the Society's netivities during the year:

(a) Twelve cases of multsal com- plaints were dealt with. Three af these were satisfactorily settled with the help of the Secretary for Chinese Affairs; three complaints, upon our investigation, were found false; two cates are still under bnvestigation; the remaining four cases were hand- ed over to the Secretary for Chinese Affairs who took appropriate action.

A (b)

representative of this Society gave expert evidence is a case of contravention of the Female Domestic Servants Ordinance. This was done at the request of the for Chinese Honourable Secretary Afalra.

(c) Owing to the death

of Mr. Wong Sum-kan, our late President, the Rev. Lee Kau-yan was elected the new President."
