SERVANT CONFESSES
SPENT STOLEN $49 ON A HOLIDAY
Leaving her handbag, which con- tained $49, in the ladies room of the Kowloon Riding School on December 29 while she went out to take riding lessons, Mrs. W. T. Louis, of 26 Moly Road, ground. floor, missed it on her return. A report was made to the Police but nothing materialised until yesterday when Wong Kwok-clian, 45, an ex-employee of the School, gave himself up at the Central Police Station and admitted the theft.
He was charged before Mr. Him- sworth at the Kowloon Magistracy this morning and was ordered to return the money to complainant. falling which he was to serve one month's hard labour. He was also bound over in the sum of $20 to be of good behaviour for one month.
Sergt. Banks, who prosecuted, said defendant had apparently gone to Canton and spent the money, after which he returned to Hongkong and gave himself up. The manager of the School had offered to make good the loss by giving complainant rid- ing lessons worth that amount.
His Worship remarked that that arrangement did not concern Court.
