Chatham Road last week and viewed the typhoon-ruined stands. terraces, railings and clubhouse of the Kowloon Foot- ball Club probably ejaculated an expression of sympathy for the club's apparently big financial loss. But thanks to the fore- sight of the club's officials the burden imposed by the typhoon havoc is comparatively light. Actually the K.F.C. will only! have to dig into its coffers to the extent of some $250, this to be expended on repairing the iron railings which are not in- surable But the clubhouse is insured against typhoon damage, while, as a result of an agree- ment, the contractor is respon- sible for restoring the stands and terraces: By the time the football season opens at the end of September the club will be looking its old self, and will, if anything, be in a better condi. tion than it was a week ago. ture about China's footballers during the last three months has been the way they have kept injury free and recovered from the stale- nes which no atfected them prior to leaving for the Olymples. Clearly they must have played grade A fast. bali to share tour goals with the French Olympic team in Paris on Saturday, and this augurs well for their tour of England. French foot- ball, though not so well developed as that of Austria, Germany and Hun- gary, is still good enough to hold its own on the Continent, and for a team to play n draw against the pick of the country after an exhausting tour lasting some three months, is a fine tribute, not only to the Chinese players, but to fr. Wong Ka-tsun have and the other officials, who clearly laboured unceasingly to keep their "boys" up to the mark. If the Chinese can snatch a draw from Ar- senal next month, and at the same time learn valuable lessons from the experience, then their costly visit to Europe will not have been in vain, and we can look forward to better and better football in Hongkong.
